Praying for the Persecuted Church – Burma (Myanmar)
Since June 2011, 66 churches have been destroyed by fire in Kachin State by government forces. This has been seen as a deliberate act of religious persecution. The report has been issued by the Kachin Women’s Association of Thailand through their spokesperson, Julia Marip. These statistics are confirmed by Kachin Baptist Convention based in Myitkyina.
In addition to the seriousness of this situation there are 30 reported incidents of sexual assault, involving 64 women and girls, including gang rapes, which have been committed by Myanmar troops. At least half of those women raped were killed afterwards.
